Basic Science

Basic science research is sometimes called “bench research” that is, looking at genes, dna, blood or tissue samples. It gives us clues about how the body works and responds to things.

The Centre of Excellence for Prevention of Organ Failure (PROOF Centre)
The PROOF Centre develops new blood tests to better predict, diagnose, manage and treat patients at risk for, or suffering from, heart, lung and kidney disease. The PROOF Centre is a not-for-profit organization that works with clinicians, researchers, health economists, and the diagnostics, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries to speed the development of these tests, applying them sooner to improve and save lives. Current major development programs underway include Biomarkers in Transplantation, Chronic Heart Failure, Acute Heart Failure, Chronic Kidney Disease and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
